How to tie a knot

1) First, put the line on the spool and thread the line through the eye holes in the rod and out through the top eyehole.

2) Next thread the line through the split ring, the nose or the hole in the hook.

3) Then pull the line through so there is about five inches of extra line to work with.

4) After that, take the free end and wrap it around the other end seven times.

5) To finish it off, pull the side which you wrapped down through the hole on the bottom and pull tight.
NOW YOU HAVE A KNOT!!!

How to cast

Next you have to cast. This could be tricky depending on what kind of rod and reel you are using.

1) Closed face spinning reel: If you are using a closed face reel, push the button on the reel, then swing the rod backwards over your shoulder and at about half way through the forward swing release the button by the spool and wait for the lure to hit the water before you start reeling again.

2) Spinning reel: If you are using a spinning reel, first, you would take your pointer finger and grab the line and pull it against the rod. Next, open the bale which is the half circle thing on the reel. Now cast the same way you would with the closed face reel.

3) Bait casting reel: WARNING - Just warning you, this is a very difficult reel to use so don’t get frustrated if you keep getting backlashes or birds nests because it happens to me sometimes (okay, a lot)!! First press down on the button by the spool and at the same time put your thumb on spool so the line doesn’t come off. Now swing the rod backwards over your shoulder and then bring the rod forward over your shoulder. At about three quarters of the way through your forward cast release your thumb just enough so that the line comes off the spool, but not too quickly (otherwise you will probably get a backlash). When the lure hits the water, push your thumb against the spool so no more line comes off. Now you can reel in the lure.
