Dr. King wanted blacks and white people to be able to intertwine with each other, be able to live together, be able to play together. He wanted equal rights for all races, no matter what color. Dr. King wanted freedom and liberty for all the people in America. He proved this by saying” I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
He has gotten most of what he wanted. Black people are free, everybody has equal rights, and people are treated the same. In 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the barrier for blacks in Major League Baseball. first African Americans inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1963. The first African American to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Emlen Tunnell, in 1967. First African-American woman elected to U.S. House of Representatives, Shirley Chisholm in 1968. The first African American to play in the NHL, Val James, on the Buffalo Sabres, in 1981. The first African American to win a men's major golf championship, Tiger Woods, in 1997. And in 2009, the first African-American President of the United States, Barrack Obama. I think Dr. King would be proud to see what black people have accomplished since his speech in 1963.
